Personal Project

That is true power; self-power, her power, girl power

The Personal Project is the culmination of the Middle Years Programme, completed in the last year of the MYP. It harnesses student interest and allows them to explore and create something meaningful for them. At Merici, students complete the Personal Project throughout Year 10 and have an opportunity to celebrate and share their achievements in Term 4.

What is the Personal Project?

The Personal Project is an opportunity for students in Year 10 to use the knowledge and skills they have developed over their time at Merici College to explore a topic of their interest. They set learning and product goals for themselves, plan how they will achieve their product, discuss the Approaches to Learning (skills) that they used to achieve their goals, and finally, they evaluate the impact the project has had on themselves, their learning, and their community.

The Inquiry Cycle

Students select a topic they are passionate about to design their own learning goals and create a product through this learning process. The skills developed in the Personal Project set up students as lifelong and independent learners. Students are assessed on three criteria that reflect the aims of the personal project: Planning, Applying Skills and Reflecting.

The Personal Project is guided by an inquiry process that involves students using the approaches to learning skills developed across the four years of their MYP journey.

Year 10 students are each given a supervising teacher who is their cheerleader and support person for guidance and advice. Students have workshops to develop their skills and work on their project.
